Good Morning Everyone;
As you ALL know by now, Casey has had her TP/AIT Transplant.
Her pancreas is gone completely, and she must now check her blood sugars every day, 4 times a day.
Also, she must take her digestive enzymes before, during and after each meal. To not do this would leave her with intense pain from the food being completely undigested.

She has been on enzymes for years before her surgery already, so this was no big deal for her after her transplant.

Fast forward to yesterday.

She needed her enzymes prescription refilled. So off to the pharmacy. At Oneida, she does not pay for these prescriptions, so it it obvious where she needs to pick them up. (Saving us about $200.00 month).

They did not have the correct ones.

  • She uses the ones that dissolve in her stomach and NOT her intestines.
  • They only carry the intestinal ones.

After arguing with the pharmacist who told her they couldn't (wouldn't) get them in, she had no choice but to take what was given to her.

We broke one open. It was not powder that could have been taken with meals. Instead, it was filled with hard little balls that obviously could not be crushed.

Then came lunch.
Casey needs to take this new prescription 1/2 hour before she can put anything in her mouth. (The other script from Dr. Sutherland dissolves immediately in her stomach, allows her to take them right before she eats, and while she is eating also).
She takes at least 4 (of either), with each meal or snack.

Lunchtime then called for a contact to the doctor- Would the new enzymes still work in her stomach even though they did not open until they reached the intestines?
A good question that needed answering.
Casey called, the nurse thought 'yes'.
And so we ate. With no complications during or after her meal.

A good thing. And another hurdle was cleared.

Well, until I came online last night...

Casey had left hours before, expecting company at her home. I had these two links in my inbox CLICK HERE or HERE if you are taking painkillers or digestive enzymes from either Ther-Rx Corporation OR ETHEX Corporation. (Or click on the names of the companies).
I forwarded the links to Casey immediately, and called to tell her to check them.

The digestive enzymes she hadn't wanted to take in the first place are a part of a nationwide recall.

Since she still had the prescription bottle with refills from Minnesota, I told her to call a few pharmacies in Green Bay and to bring her empty prescription bottle from Dr. Sutherland to get a refill.

No easy task. Those pills were not to be found anywhere in Green Bay, but if she wanted to drive to Appleton, (40 miles south), one pharmacy did have them.
Taking the recalled variety was not an option, (nor is NOT eating anything for three days while the pharmacies order them for her). She opted to drive down there at 8:30 at night.

I got the phone number of the pharmacy from her while she was in transit, and called to give them my credit card information.
No. They would not take it over the phone.
WHAT?!? (I do this at CVS here in town all the time)!

I asked for the manager.
"Ed" came on the line, and I explained the situation, (her surgeries and the importance of these pills) to him. He said he could not do that either.
Long story short(er)... If Casey brought the credit card info in they would run it that way.

Thank God.
She now has the proper enzymes to take.
Not sure what to do about the recalls and all. Probably return the prescription to Oneida. And I will probably have to demand that they order the correct prescription in.
This is something she absolutely needs to take for her entire life. Why would they not accommodate her?
I shall just have to find out.

Time for me to fly!

I can't believe what a run around Casey has been through!
It would be good to know why the recalls on all these meds...hmmm....boggles the mind.

Will Oneida be able to stock the proper meds for her in the future or will she have to go elsewhere and pay through the nose?

Its shocking what this young lady has had to go through and I would demand to know why this pharmacy cannot stock and have her drugs on hand at ALL TIMES .. I will keep Casey in my thoughts and prayers , she seems like a very strong young woman and I hope everything soon starts to get a whole lot better for her

Oh good grief! What next?! Poor CaseyFace, she's paid her dues isn't about time she started getting a break? If Oneida won't or can't stock the proper meds for Casey see if you can get Dr Sutherland to call a regular (not a chain) Pharmacist and he can mix up the compound with the same ingredients (I had to do this one time). The only problem is that it won't be free.

maybe she should check online, maybe a rebate of sorts could be worked out....anyways did you hear about the class action suit withh heprin not sure of the spelling but the blood thinner.... from what i saw she was probably a poster child for that one..

WTH is right!?!?!

I believe the recalls were for not being made in facilities that are mandated by the gov't; and some were for potency issues.
For example, the hydromorphone (dilauded) that Casey takes would be too high of a potency. If she takes too much she quits breathing. (And while breathing is historically overrated, I really HAVE BEEN trying to keep her doing so).

Oneida was being a shithead about it. Maybe now they will change their minds and at least ADD this to their list of meds.
We can only hope...

See? They CAN stock it I am sure. Maybe it is a "crunch" type thing, but it's not like she is not going to be needing it in the future.

Thank you for the prayers too- Sems everyone can always use those!

She IS a very strong young lady... Just wish all the BS would end. Seems like not a week goes by that there isn't something that tries to throw a wrench into her recovery.

I will absolutely get a call in to U of M if they won't stock these for her.

I liked that picture too- Took a LOT of them thank God- Only got like 2 that I can actually use.

Trust me, I am going to try to figure $omething out-
Before we left Minnesota, her meds cost me about $1800.00. That is way too much for all of those.

I haven't heard of the heparin thing, but will check into it all.
(Maybe that is why she had such bleeding issues)?

They CAN and should order the proper meds for her at that pharmacy close by. They just do not have a big call for them to make any profit from them. THAT is the basis for them refusing to get it for her. But they can and should because she will need them monthly. Keep checking around till you find a pharmacy much closer who will accommodate with the right prescription. Someone WILL be kind enough to do it for you and say to hell with the profits. There are a few out there who still believe the person is more important than the money. Just have to find them.

The social worker from the clinic or the hospital should be able to help Casey fill out the proper papers to get the drugs free or at little cost from the drug companies and have them delivered to her home........with no income so to speak she should qualifiy for that help. The worker at my doctor's office did just that when I was first so sick and lost my job. So her clinic could and should try. It would just cost them a stamp!!!

The prescription we got last night was 169.00. for 160 pills. She takes 4 every meal or snack.
That's about a 10-14 day supply depending on her eating.

Like you, I know that they can get them in.
I have a week or so to go there and state my case so they will have them for when she needs them next.

I also know SHE is more important than the $$$. But if I can save this amount every 10-14 days I would sure do so.

"so to speak"? She is broke as a poor little church mouse.

When she was turned down last year for disability, I told her to reapply immediately to keep it going. Maybe that will help too.
It is a very good idea too! I will go to the Contract Health office at the clinic- (You are right, they sure SHOULD help her out).
Even if I have to drive up to Sault Ste Marie I will do that too.
It was all so bizarre last night that I almost was ready to drive down to Neenah myself.

She seemed to have no ill effects from the few she did take. And I am happy that I came online last night too.
Even IF I would have come online earlier, she still would have taken some. The email notification came at 3PM. Too late for lunch.

I find it odd too that the pharmacy still has not contacted her to tell her to return the recalled pills.
I shall have to ask them about THAT too.

UN FREAKIN believable---Dear God--I hate aLL pharmacies myself--they gave me a codeine deriv and I puked my intestines out--they are lucky I left my gun @ Da'ds and have never boughten bullets! Will continue my vigil--I have a STACK of cards and have been working on sometihng for you all but withe the surgery on Tuesday and my Aunt Jo almost died Christmas day....it's alwAYS sumthin! All the Love, Ginabeena--gonna go try n relax--if not sleep--is there a full moon????

Im back!

Have you checked at walmart to see if those are listed as some of the $4 prescriptions? If even one was.. that would help. Definately contact the companies for free or reduced cost meds.. I think you can even do it if the clinic wont.

Now I hear they are talking about something else being recalled.. honestly I cant remember what..

Somethings not right with all that! hehe
